THE
CARIBBEAN
Caribbean week of rivers with ben morton
Experience Costa Rica from a completely different perspective: from the seat of your kayak, surrounded by tropical rainforest, volcanic landscapes, abundant wildlife, and some of the country’s most spectacular whitewater.
The Caribbean Week of Rivers is designed for paddlers who want to experience a progression of Costa Rica’s incredible rivers while enjoying the support of experienced local guides, private transportation, comfortable accommodations, and carefully organized logistics.
From the technical features of the Pejibaye River to the continuous Class III whitewater of the Sarapiquí and the spectacular Class III–IV rapids and jungle scenery of the Pacuare, this itinerary brings together some of the best whitewater Costa Rica has to offer.
8 Days of World-Class Whitewater Kayaking in Costa Rica
Over eight days, you’ll travel through several of Costa Rica’s most important river environments, moving from the Turrialba Valley to the biodiversity-rich Sarapiquí region and deep into the rainforest of the Pacuare River.
The itinerary combines whitewater kayaking, tropical landscapes, rainforest exploration, wildlife viewing, local communities, and comfortable lodging into one carefully coordinated adventure.
The progression is intentional. The Pejibaye River provides an opportunity to assess paddling ability and work on technique before moving into the more demanding sections of the Sarapiquí and Pacuare Rivers.
The final stages of the journey take you deep into the Pacuare wilderness, including an overnight stay at a remote jungle camp with no electricity or cell service, an opportunity to disconnect from everyday life and experience Costa Rica’s rainforest from the inside
WHY THIS WEEK OF RIVERS?
Three rivers. Multiple environments. One unforgettable adventure
Pejibaye River
A beautiful river and an ideal place to begin the paddling progression. Its combination of rapids, rocks, swift water, and jungle canopy creates an excellent environment for developing skills and becoming comfortable with the river.
Sarapiquí River
A spectacular rainforest river offering Class II and Class III whitewater, surrounded by one of Costa Rica’s richest biodiversity regions.
Pacuare River
The centerpiece of the journey. The Pacuare combines continuous Class III and IV whitewater with remote rainforest scenery, waterfalls, deep canyon walls, and some of the most dramatic river landscapes in Costa Rica.
