Costa Rica - A Cultural Paradise
Welcome to Costa Rica! A country the size of West Virginia nestled in the middle of Central America. This beautiful country has it all – mountains, jungle, rivers, oceans, volcanos, and six percent of the world’s biodiversity – meaning sloths, toucans, turtles, monkeys and more. However, what really makes Costa Rica special is the people.
Experience the food of the gods in Turrialba, learn the history behind La Negrita at the Cartago Basilica, and discover the ruins of an ancient people at Guayabo.
Enjoy the sounds of the jungle on a wildlife boat tour, learn about the native populations of Costa Rica, and explore the volcanic richness in La Fortuna.
8 Days/7 Nights
History, Ruins, Chocolate, Hanging Bridges, and Wildlife
Join us for a nine day adventure through the heart of Costa Rica. Begin your journey in San Jose before heading east to the Turrialba Valley. Drive through the rich agricultural valley of Turrialba among the coffee, cabbage, and sugar cane. Let your local guide share the Costa Rican culture with you!
Next, head north to the deep rainforest and experience the animals that call Costa Rica home while walking through the jungle at canopy level. Learn about the Maleku peoples, the wildlife, and the dangerous beauty of the Arenal volcano.
Head back to San Jose to depart, or choose to extend your stay at the relaxing resorts in La Fortuna.
Day 1
Arrival Day
On this day you will arrive in San Jose, which marks the beginning of your adventure. Your first stop will be the Holiday Inn Hotel, conveniently located near the airport. Take this time to relax and get ready for the exciting tours that awaits you the next day!
Day 2
Basilica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles and CATIE Botanical Gardens
Your journey will begins in Cartago where you will explore the beautiful Basilica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles – Our Lady of the Angels. Learn about, and experience, these healing waters and the pilgrimage that most Costa Ricans partake in each year on August 2nd.
Let your guide regale you with the story of La Negrita, a very important volcanic icon that dates back to the 1600s.
Next, you will take a drive to Turrialba for a hike at the Botanical Garden located in one of the Costa Ricas’s most famous and recognized conservation places: CATIE
Day 3
Guayabo Archeological Site and Night Tour
Our next stop on this journey will be the ancient Guatabo Archaeological site, a significant location for the indigenous peoples of the past. Here you will find the largest pre-Columbian ruins that have been discovered in Costa Rica to date.
Following this tour, we’ll return to the hotel to give you some time to rest before embarking on a night tour, during which you will encounter various types of nocturnal animals and some famous frogs. This night tour is a unique opportunity to enter the tropical nocturnal world of Costa Rican wildlife.

Day 5
Sky Adventures! The Tram and Hanging Bridges
On the 5th day of this adventure, you will do the Sky Tram that will take you up to the highest mountain in Arenal. The tramway will offer amazing views of the surrounding forests and even more. While ascending you will also be able to admire distinctive flora and fauna that might be only spotted from above.
The hike on the Hanging Bridges offers a more peaceful introduction to exploring Arenal Rainforest on a circuit trail that snakes through distinct levels of the wonderfully diverse ecosystem, enjoy the flora and fauna of the forest canopy.
On the way back to the hotel you will stop to see the magestic Volcano!
Day 6
Safari Float and La Paz Waterfall Gardens
Enjoy the abundant wildlife and undeniable beauty surrounding the Peñas Blancas River as you drift down stream for an enchanting and unforgettable experience. The expert naturalist guides will do the rowing leaving you relaxed and eyes wide open examining the lush rainforest canopy in search of monkeys, sloths, reptiles and other species. You’ll be hands free to take pictures of the nearby iguanas sunning themselves on the passing branches or grab your binoculars to catch a closer look of a tropical bird.
After lunch you will head to San Jose and you will stop at La Paz Waterfall Gardens where you will have five waterfalls line the trails of these delightful gardens. View them from platforms built above, below, and in the front of these spectacular natural falls.
The safe trails make the falls easily accessible and the varying views make this photographic delight a must do on every Costa Rican trip!
Day 7
Museums Day
You will visit two different museums this day: The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum and the National Museum where you will be able to enjoy and learn more about Costa Rica’s history. You will see 1,600 pieces of gold artifacts, dating back to 500 CE. In Costa Rican history, gold was considered a symbol of authority, and the items in the museum display the craftsmanship of the pre-Columbian period.
Day 8
Fly Home
Today you will be taken to the airport. We will work around your flight time to make sure you are at the airport in time for your flight.
